What’s on your “I will” list?
Tonight I’m doing something that scares me a little. It’s my first aquathlon - an 800m swim followed by a 5k run.
I’ve done multiple long-distance events. I’ve swum much further. I’ve run much further. I’ve even done both in the same day with a long ride in the middle. But this has my stomach doing flips.
Why? Because it’s new. And because I’ve gotten comfortable in the distances and formats I know I can do. And let’s be honest, it’s also easier to hide being slow when you have all day to hide it.
Comfort feels good, it feels (obviously) comforting. But when we stay there too long it turns into complacency. We stop testing ourselves. We stop feeling that nervous excited buzz that comes from trying something unknown. And without that, growth slows down.
It doesn’t have to be a big challenge. It can be something small, but new:
Speaking up in a meeting when you usually stay quiet.
Taking a different route on your run.
Saying yes to a social invite you’d normally decline.
Starting the project or taking the class you’ve been thinking about for months.
If it makes your stomach flutter a bit, you’re on the right track.
Your challenge this week:
Find one thing, big or small, to add to your “I will do this” list. Not “I might.” or “I’ll see how I feel.”
“I will.” And then do it.
Because the most exciting parts of life don’t live inside our comfort zone. They’re waiting just beyond the edge!
